# Regions and Base URL

> Copy a real regional endpoint and distinguish the /v1 URL from the gateway root.

## Get the regional URL

Choose a region in the console header and copy the endpoint on the <ConsoleLink path="/console/keys">API keys page ↗</ConsoleLink>. `YOUR-REGION.example` is a placeholder and cannot serve requests. The documentation site's location is unrelated to the API region.

The OpenAI SDK appends resource paths to its Base URL. Avoid duplicated paths such as `/v1/v1/responses`. Remove the final **`/v1`** for the Anthropic SDK and Claude Code. Build Gemini `/v1beta` paths from the gateway root.

## Switching and latency

Selecting a region changes which URL you copy; it does not update an already running application. Update the application configuration before making new calls. Account preferences store signed-in users' selections; browser storage stores guest selections.

<Warning>A manually selected region does not silently fail over to another region. Query, continue, and cancel an existing Responses request through its original region. Check its result before deciding to generate again.</Warning>

Latency probes measure the entry point, not model generation speed or a service guarantee. Use the console's current region configuration as the source of truth.
